The Pro Monument foundation, also abbreviated to ProMo, was founded in April 1993 as the result of a private initiative. The immediate cause of the foundation of ProMo was the imminent demolition of the West-End and Cinelandia cinemas.

ProMo is an independent foundation that makes its purpose to stand up for the conservation of and the care for the historic buildings on Curacao in the broadest sense of the word. ProMo tries to do this by, as a watchdog, having itself heard loudly whenever monuments are in danger of disappearing, or of being harmed in any other way. Besides fighting for the conservation of historic buildings, ProMo shows various activities aimed at increasing the awakening to the historic inheritance among the population Curacao. For instance, Promo organizes lectures and Monumento Habrí (Open Monument day) with which he foundation has gained its greatest reputation.
